The FAA treats a power bank as a spare lithium battery. It must travel in carry-on baggage. If staff take your carry-on at the gate or planeside, remove the power bank and keep it with you in the cabin. The FAA's general limit for a rechargeable lithium-ion battery is 100 watt-hours (Wh). Pack it so the crew can respond
- Photograph or write down the model and capacity label before leaving home.
- Place the power bank in a protective pouch where metal objects cannot bridge its terminals.
- Keep it accessible rather than burying it in a checked or gate-checked bag.
- Follow the airline's rules on using or charging it during flight; permission to carry a battery is not automatically permission to use it.
